Schooled

On Friday, February 03, students were surprised by a visit from Capricorn "Cap" Anderson during their lunches.  Cap, the main character from the book Schooled,  came to hang out with students at Mary Lillard Intermediate.  Schooled is a book written by Gordon Korman that is being used for our Read it Forward program district wide at the intermediate level.  Students who have read the book, passed a short comprehension test, and participated in the online survey are considered "Schooled".  They then pass one of the 100+ copies of the book along to another student on our campus.  "Schooled" students at MLIS will have a variety of activities in which to participate in the following months.

Google Earth meets Prezi in the MLIS Library!

I had the opportunity to attend TCEA's Virtual Technology Conference this past week.  While watching a session on Google Earth, the presenter was sharing how to embed student created projects into a pin on Google Earth.  At the time, Language Arts and Socials Studies teacher Mrs. Martinez had a group of her students in the library researching countries.  She had told me they were putting their research information into a Prezi.  I looked up  Prezi to see if what I had learned would work with the program and it would!  I shared it with Mrs. Martinez.  She got excited about it and asked if I would show all of her students how to do it.  I quickly made a handout with the steps and showed all the classes.  Now, when the students present their project, they will begin with a saved Google Earth file.  When it opens, it will zoom to their country so all students will have a visual of where the country is located, what it looks like, etc. and they will launch their Prezi from there.

I love learning new things and sharing with my faculty and students!
